Sunburn comes along with pain and embarassment so we're here to help!
If you must be out in the sun for prolonged periods of time, you can help prevent sunburn with a few of the following strategies. Use sunscreen. Again, fairly obvious, but sunburn prevention goes beyond that. You need to make sure that you are using at least SPF 30 when applying sunscreen. In order to be immediately effective when you go outside, you will need to put the sunscreen on thirty minutes prior. It is wise to reapply sunscreen every 2.5 hours, more or less depending on what you are doing outside. Also, do not forget to protect your lips with SPF 30 as well (of course with something specifically design for the lips).
You can also help prevent sunburn by avoiding the times of the day when the sun is the strongest (usually noon-3pm). Another obvious method of sunburn prevention is wearing clothing to cover your body. Sometimes, that is not quite enough as your average piece of clothing only offers around SPF 15 protection. You can purchase special detergents that add SPF to your clothes to boost them to SPF 30.
Finally, don't forget your eyes! While you may realize the effect on the sun their the least, they are probably the most important to protect. Wear sun glasses with the appropriate UV protection.
